Size Matters: Triple Dee

So rude. So f***ing RUDE!

And so smug about it, so pleased with his "wit", his "H-E-R not H-I-M" s**t.

I get mostly positive feedback from people, says Robin "Triple Dee" Hillis. Young, old, male or female - people will stop me and ask me how I got my biceps like that or how much time I spend in the gym etc. They always tell me how great I look and how they wish they could do it! Very few negative comments.

imagebam.com

There are a lot of people who stare though. But is that negative? I would like to think they are admiring from afar and just don't have the confidence to come up and ask me questions.

I reckon I'd be one of the starers. Hypnotised, rushing, moving to get a better view perhaps, but to all intents and purposes zombified by The Madness. Incapable of forming anything remotely resembling a question, incapable of uttering anything remotely resembling a word in the English language, which at least sets me apart from our smug videographer - and isn't his camerawork s**t by the way - although from Robin's point of view, I guess we'd both fall into the starer category.

imagebam.com

Most recently, Robin was towering over the other big girls in Toronto at her first professional show. That's Cathy Lefrançois there next to her, wonderful glutes and all. And there is Robin's elbow, near as dammit the same height as the top of Cathy's head. And here's the two of them again, Cathy looking decidedly tempted by Robin's muscle pit, or at the very least mulling over the fact that she could remain at full height and still comfortably snuggle her whole head in there.

imagebam.com

You'd bet she was 6ft plus, wouldn't you? I'd say 6'1" at least, even taller then me in her girly girl heels. But the fact is she's 5'9". Tall for a woman, yes, and definitely tall for a top female bodybuilder, but not nearly as Amazonian as you'd imagine. Guess she walks tall, as they say.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Robin had always been sporty at school. The transformation, though, truly began in her final year. I had to do a project in health class, she says. I picked the topic Bodybuilding and focused on Cory Everson. I immediately joined a gym and have never looked back. I have been steadily training since I was 18 years old.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

She competed first in 1993 and didn't compete again until ten years' later, then she had another break between 2005 and 2010. She's now 45, proudly wearing the scars of motherhood on stage, finally a pro after winning the Canadian championships in 2014 at her fourth attempt. The years of steady training have created a physique described by one forum poster as "a dream for every hardcore female muscle fan". And make no mistake, there are plenty of those.

imagebam.com

Perfection, according to Robin, is something we all aim for, knowing we will never attain it. But her "stable of adoring fans" might disagree. They call her "incredible", they call her "unreal". Nobody fills out a shirt better, they say. She is an "animal", a "female beast" - and they mean it in a good way. She is a "true Alpha", a "real life Amazon".

imagebam.com

For every onlooker with a cameraphone and a shaky hand making snide comments about Robin's gender then, there is, I would bet, at least one of me, utterly awestruck and overwhelmed by this vision of muscular female beauty. I probably needn't be so nervous. None of us starers should. Those lucky enough to have met her report she is "super sweet", that she has "an amazing, down-to-earth personality", and on top of that, that she is ultra-feminine.

imagebam.com

People automatically assume that we want to be masculine cause we lift weights, Robin says. I am a girly girl and happen to think muscle is sexy. I love the lines and shape it gives us bodybuilders. And that is exactly what I've always loved about female bodybuilders too, and clearly I am not alone in that.

imagebam.com

With her size, Robin certainly has more lines and shape, and consequently, more devoted fans than most. And that - in a nutshell - is precisely why size matters.

Rolling Thunder 060-074

QUEEN OF QUADS

imagebam.com imagebam.com

The Queen claiming her throne at the inaugural Texas Pro, mega quads and all. Quite apart from being the first Ms Rising Phoenix (and the winner of the biggest prize female bodybuilding has ever seen - CHA CHING!) Margie was once a marine, and claims to be "The Bringer of Quadgasms". Too many athletes stop when their muscles begin to burn, she says. Me - I'm just getting warmed up! Ah! So that's her secret...

QUAD TREASURE FROM THE ARCHIVE

KIM KING

imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com

WPW cover star and 1991 NPC Nationals Heavyweight and Overall champion Kim King is a name (and body) many a female muscle head of a certain age will remember. Her glorious amateur career was followed by a single pro appearance at the 1992 Jan Tana, where she finished 9th, but I simply could not resist finding a place for her and those "legendary" thighs in one of this week's posts. She was one of my favorites in those times, one forum poster recalls. She had extraordinarily built legs!

imagebam.com imagebam.com

To be honest, I was desperate to get the on stage shot of Kim in her old school posing suit (above right) into the week. Just look at how she presents that super ripped, super flexed, super massive thigh of hers to the judges with such full-on animal intensity.

Suddenly I'm 18 again! *SWOOOOON!*

(KNOCKIN' ME OUT WITH THOSE) BRAZILIAN THIGHS

imagebam.com

1. CLAUDIA BONAVOGLIA

imagebam.com

From Belo Horizonte, Claudia says, I'm feminine, yes! My muscles are only part of my strong personality! More feminine than many women without muscles. That's me!!! Readers may recall from FMS' Images of 2014 that Claudia likes to take that femininity of hers to the beach and make other women look somewhat inferior. Yes, that's her!!!

2. MAYARA BARROS BUENO

imagebam.com imagebam.com imagebam.com

And our second brasileira do dia is the reigning NABBA champ of southern Brazil and a top 3 finisher at this year's NABBA Brazil to boot. Yes, 2015's been very boa for Curitiba's Mayara Barros Bueno. Follow her next move via her Facebook page.

THIGHLIGHT

INSTANEZZY

imagebam.com

The other day we had a first for FMS with Hulda Lopez, our first female bodybuilder from Honduras. Well, here's another first. "Instanezzy" or "Inez" is based in Perth, Western Australia, but though we have had our fair share of Aussie muscle freaks before, we've never (knowingly) featured one who's originally from Indonesia.

imagebam.com

She's also the first female bodybuilder we've featured here who prefers to call herself a bodyrebuilder, which suggests there may well be a stunning transformation picture out there somewhere that the research team haven't managed to locate as yet.

imagebam.com

But thankfully she isn't shy of taking a selfie or two, and even better she's into juxtaposing said selfies in order to demonstrate her spectacular progress. I wonder how she got those thighs so big so quickly... Sunday legs session: 1. Legs extensions super set with leg press; 2. Seated hamstring curls; 3. Lying hamstring curls; 4. Hamstrings extensions on seated calves machine; 5. Calves raises on leg press machine; 6. Glute kickbacks machine; 7. High reps good mornings; 8. Back squats.

imagebam.com

She's cute as a button. And on Instagram pretty much daily.

CLOSE-UP

HELLE

imagebam.com

Anyone else get the feeling that the realest things, perhaps the only real things you can see in this picture are Helle's magnificent thighs? Get busy with the oil, darling.

QUADS IN MOTION

CAUTION! DANGER OF HYPNOSIS!

Aleesha. Not so much "quads in motion" as "camera in motion", and I dare say a sight that sets a few "hands in motion" too! We've already seen Aleesha this week so these two fantasy thighs don't add to the total, but a gif worth posting, I'm sure you'll agree...

YOU CAN COVER (BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE)

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Belle, Buck and Triple Dee and muscles that will take more than a skin tight outfit to cover up. A lot more. Just imagine walking in the gym and copping an eyeful such as these! "Death by sudden blood reassignment" is, I believe, how the coroners have phrased their verdicts in similar cases of female muscle headed misadventure.

Be warned my brethren!

Winners of 2014: Part One

Our look back at the year gone by begins with a celebration of some of the women who have fulfilled the dreams for which they have sacrificed so much and worked so hard.

IFBB Omaha Pro (Bodybuilding)
ANNE FREITAS
imagebam.com

Her best year yet, 2014 saw Rio's freakiest Anne Freitas become the first winner of this event and then go on to her best placing at the Ms Olympia to date. She is a veritable powder keg of muscle, gushed Steve Wennerstrom in his contest report, the title of which refers to Anne as "The Brazilian Anatomy Chart". Two other South Americans won pro events before the Ms Olympia, but Anne remains the heir to Yaxeni's crown as the premier female bodybuilder from that continent.

WABBA Universe (Bodybuilding)
SILVIA MATTA
imagebam.com

Silvia's big, curvy muscles counted against her at the NABBA Worlds in June, where she was deemed far too bodybuilder-y for the Trained Figure class and placed 5th. But those same muscular curves were the very reason the WABBA judges awarded her the Ms Universe title in Helsinki last month. What a difference a consonant makes!

Ronnie Coleman Classic (Class A & Overall Figure)
NPC Nationals (Class C Figure)
TINA NGUYEN
imagebam.com

Personally, I'd rather see one of Tina's own selfies (you know, one of those where's she's packed into a tight dress, or one where she's showing off her table top glutes in a thong, perhaps) than a dozen shots of her on stage, but my love for her selfies should by no means distract us from her competitive achievements in 2014. She boasts a 2 for 2 contest record this year. And while she didn't win the Overall title at the NPC Nationals (bottom four pics), she did win her class, which means Tina's an IFBB Figure pro now.

NPC Nationals (Light-Heavyweight Bodybuilding)
MIAVA NELSON
imagebam.com

Miava Nelson is a personal trainer from Atlantic City and a former winner of Muscle Beach and New Jersey State championships. Like Tina Nguyen, "Miss Miava" won her class at the Nationals and with it her pro card. Before anything I am a lady, she says. Whether I have baby muscle or mega muscle I am a lady. Strong is sexy.

CBBF Canadian Bodybuilding Championships (Heavyweight Bodybuilding)
ROBIN HILLIS
imagebam.com

Massive Attack! There may only have been three competitors in the Heavyweight class at the Canadian Nationals, but when those three are Robin "Triple Dee" Hillis, Caissie Liberatore and Michelle E. Russell, I think you will agree that as three-women fields go, this was one of the best (and biggest). Good to see that size (still) matters in Canada, and Robin was a worthy winner. Bodybuilding is bodybuilding. Male or female. It should be the same, she says. The complete package should win. On this occasion, it most certainly did. At 43, Ontario's most muscular is finally a pro.

Marvel at her size and cuts on her Instagram

NABBA Universe (Trained Figure Class II & Overall)
DORA RODRIGUES
imagebam.com

And we finish today's post back in Brazil via Southport in late October, when Anne Freitas' fellow Probiotica athete, Dora Rodrigues, won her second Overall NABBA Ms Universe Figure title five years after her first. Now 33, Dora says she's been training for 19 years, and looking at her finely honed champion body, I believe her. Sadly, there are precious few pictures of the event, but at least (as always with the big NABBA shows) we have Dora in motion, which I'm sure is no small consolation.
