21 Reasons (#21)

Due to some work commitments and Mr and Mrs Swell's now annual sojourn to the South of France (not the bit that was recently on fire, thankfully), the FMS offices are going to be closed this week, next week and the week after. Nevertheless, as always, we don't want to leave you totally FMS-less, so we've lined up 21 Reasons, one daily picture (or two or three), plus one reason why we love doing what we do, as if we were explaining it to one not so convinced of the glory of the muscular female.

Enjoy!

ENLIGHTENMENT?

imagebam.com

And so to the last of our 21 Reasons. So far we have had facial beauty, Laine Costa's sweaty pecs, happiness, Lauren Martin Stow, the joys of obsession, Fanny Swerkstrom's bum, flexibility, lady pecs (in general, not just Laine's sweaty ones), curves, magnetism, that female muscle jawline, Guluzar Tufenk, abs, the fact that the sport has a champion as in-your-face sexy as Margie Martin, clitoral enlargement, biceps, Dani Reardon, exhibitionism, Female Bodybuilding contests, and, yesterday, the transformative powers of muscle. I could have mentioned many many others, but these were the 20 that ultimately made the cut. It hardly matters, but would our imaginary female muscle denier be convinced, do you think?

I think not.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

No one is "convinced". I can't imagine what it's like not to be attracted to female muscle, and I would bet you can't either. We just are. It wasn't a rational choice. Attraction never is. Nevertheless, we suspect those who claim never to be attracted to muscle on a woman, even the smallest amount, are kidding themselves - that's why I call them "deniers", for example. We, on the other hand are "enlightened". We have, in the literal sense, "seen the light" - the fact that muscle women are just better.

imagebam.com

We're not enlightened though. We're just wired this way. The deniers are going to see the light sooner or later. They'll have no choice the way things are going. "Strong is the new sexy" was the phrase du jour some years ago. Take away the "new" and you're bang up-to-date with the now. Female gym membership on the up and up, the number of women competing likewise. Meanwhile, weight training for women is growing in popularity in countries where just a decade ago it was unheard of. Even in the few countries where it's forbidden it's growing. More and more female muscle on the planet. The women who do it "enlightening" the women who don't to take it up. Muscles, for more and more women around the world, are desirable, and those that disagree will, the way things are going, be occupying the weirdo space where we once were.

imagebam.com

So don't congratulate yourself too much. You weren't "proved right" or anything like that because you didn't have much choice in the matter. Rather you should count yourself lucky. You should absolutely feel blessed to be a female muscle fan in the current zeitgeist. It feels pretty good when your team is winning, doesn't it?

FMS returns to "normality" tomorrow.

TRANSFORMATION

imagebam.com imagebam.com

I was overweight. I had an eating disorder. I was an alcoholic, a drug addict, depressed. Such stories have been told on more than one occasion here on the blog, and countless times in the world of female bodybuilding, enough times to make me think weight training should be a recommended treatment on the NHS for all of the above. But it's not just in extreme cases that the sport transforms lives - bodies and, crucially, minds. Having a muscular physique has definitely changed me on a psychological level, said Dawn Alison in 2010. It has made me confident and gives me a feeling of power and control over myself and how my body looks, feels and functions. Growing up I always seemed to be at war with my body and hating the skin I was in. It has hugely raised my levels of self-esteem, self-worth, and self-love, all of which I had little or none of prior to my involvement with bodybuilding.

imagebam.com

Even the prior self-loathing isn't necessary - Theresa Ivancik, Shannon Courtney, Diana Schnaidt to name but three, were conventionally attractive before, in Diana's case enough to have a reasonably successful career in modelling.
Life doesn't have to have been bad before for muscles to make it so much better.

THE CONTEST

Some don't compete, but for many of the women we feature on the blog, and pretty much all of our personal favourites, the contest is the raison d'ĂȘtre, the moment their beautiful bodies reach "peak" condition, when they stand on stage, glammed up, tanned up, oiled up, and pumped up, and really feel like the muscle goddesses they are.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

It's also my favourite time. From "12/10/8-weeks out" when they start to take off their layers in the gym and so on, right through to the post-show photo shoots, muscles swollen by massive celebratory meals, this is when those beautiful bodies are shown off in their fullest ripped and muscular glory. Preparing as the excitement mounts backstage; suited in the hotel room before, during or after; the "part sport, part erotic theatre" of the posing and performances. I love it all. It's kind of what I live for.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

You could call it my porn.

imagebam.com

I would call it that, but it's so much better.

EXHIBITIONISM

All that hard work might as well be appreciated in full.

#musclesaresexy notes Physique competitor and living proof Gaby Quiros, stating the obvious. She does like to show it off on her Instagram. Quite frankly I am somewhat surprised this one made it past the Instapolice, though I am bloody glad it did!

DANI

imagebam.com

If Dani Reardon didn't exist, perhaps one of the better female muscle fiction writers would have invented her. The high school teen muscle queen who goes on to rise to as close as you can get to the summit of her chosen sport without actually being on it...

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

How far she has come. And, with the exception of the "incident" that led to her being detained by the police back in 2014, she has always been on that rise, both in terms of her professional career, and in terms of her popularity with female muscle fans.

Until now.

I think we are close to seeing the end of her as a competitor, writes one forum poster, obviously better-informed about Dani than I am. She seems to be turning into a bit of a head case and didn't even train much the first half of this year. Sponsors dropped her hand over fist. Her Olympia progress doesn't seem to be on track either. I'm afraid she'll get her ass handed to her this time and she'll slowly fade away afterwards.

imagebam.com

All she's ever known is building muscle and competing. It's the only thing she's ever done. And in the period she's been doing it, she's given me as much pleasure as any other muscle woman. And, more importantly, she remains an inspirational figure to (hundreds of) thousands of women across the world. They're not and I'm not ready to stop cheering for Dani. Not by a long chalk. So I hope he's wrong in his prediction.

I hope the best years for Dani are yet to come.

GUNS & AMMO

They would say they "don't mind a woman with toned arms but she is too much".

Well, judging by the collective excitement there seems to be every time some celebrity lady shows off her "ripped arms", or the too numerous to mention times our own UK TV phone babes get asked to flex for their caller's viewing pleasure, then I'd say that they may think they only like women with "toned" arms, but that it's a short walk from there to here, and a shorter walk from there to here, and before you know it you're here, and before long you (may) find yourself staring down the barrels of Flores' mighty guns...

'COS THIS IS OUR CHAMPION

imagebam.com

Say what you like about the (undeniably impressive) record of Iris Kyle as Ms Olympia, since the Rising Phoenix took over as the world's premier pro FBB contest, cheerleading for the sport has been a lot easier. You'd have to go back to Yaxeni in 2005 to find a champion who knew how to bring so much fiery sex appeal to the stage, FMS wrote in this year's Hot and Hard 100. So fierce and powerful, and yet, so feminine. Exactly how I would like the champ to be. All muscle and all woman.

imagebam.com

And it's not just on stage that Margie brings it, it's pretty much 24/7 as far as I can tell. And nor has she eased up on the muscle sexiness since hanging up her flaming posing suit (temporarily I hope) either. "Ms Melanite" these days, she was, not so long ago, calling herself "The Bringer of Quadgasms". To us? To herself? To both? Each option has its own special level of muscle sexy appeal. I like to think it was the third though.

HER ABS

imagebam.com

So appealing, so aesthetically-pleasing. Evidence of lots of hard training, yes, but also of the discipline it takes to strip away the body fat and reveal them in all their (even better if veiny/ridged) glory. Amateur or Pro; Bikini, Fitness, Figure, Physique or Bodybuilding - if she's got the abs, then you can bet ol' Swell here has got the swoons.

imagebam.com

Abs are also a way in to the mind of the female muscle denier, I reckon. Plenty of non-FBB related forum content on the subject out there: Do you like women with sexy abs? questions (as if there were un-sexy ones!), more often then not qualified with "I'm not talking bulky, bodybuilder abs" or some such nonsense. Start them out gently...

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Anita Herbert, or a Figure phenom like Cydney Gillon, for example. They'll be telling you she's "too much" and right-clicking and saving-as at the same time.

Cute enough for any female muscle hater, you zoom out to reveal... A body of pure muscle, then watch their face as they struggle to compute what they are seeing.

Now I have (still) never actually done this to anyone, but it's on my to-do list, and Guluzar is my latest #1 choice (taking over from Mavi) as the bait for my trap.

THE JAW THAT PUTS YOUR JAW TO THE FLOOR

I love a conventionally beautiful face on a muscular woman, but having said that, and I know it's a personal preference, the square jawline to me is a woman who's saying "I'm willing to get huge, no matter what the cost", and that is whole different level of sexy and absolutely the biggest turn on. The squarer the jaw, the better!

MAGNETISM

You can guarantee everyone's heads are turning the moment you enter a room, is just one reason why it's better to be strong than skinny wrote Ashley Fern for Elite Daily back in 2015. It's pretty damn powerful to have a commanding presence.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

At the gym, the supermarket, the pool, the beach... in fact EVERYWHERE she goes, EVERYONE is looking at her. And that includes you, my female muscle denying friend. I mean I know you tell yourself you're not attracted to women with muscles and all but if that really is the truth then why can't you stop gawping at her?

THE GREATEST LIE EVER TOLD ABOUT FBBs...

imagebam.com

... is that they lack femininity, that they lack "curves".

imagebam.com

Well, I've spent some quality time with these recent pics of Aleesha, and I have to admit I'm struggling to find a single straight line. Far from lacking curves, FBBs (and OK, Aleesha is an extreme example, but why wouldn't I bring out the biggest gun available to blow this ridiculous myth out of the water once and for all?) are simply the most curvaceous women of all because they have muscles all over. Aleesha, and all her iron sisters, have curves in places where other women don't even have places.

Fact.

Don't get me wrong, I am, as regular readers will know, far from an "anti-implant pec purist", but when they are unenhanced, all-worked-for, thick, pumped, striated, bulging, rippling slabs of muscle like Mirea Henriquez's here, I can't resist.

Sadly, I've never been intimate with a full-on muscle woman (though I haven't given up hope Mrs Swell may yet turn to me one day and say "So, what do you think about me doing some steroids?"). However, I have been intimate with a PE teacher, a martial artist, and, best of all, with a (at the time I knew her, former) national level gymnast.

So trust me when I say this kind of flexibility is a very very good thing.
