Tampa: [Reader Request] Barbie

imagebam.com

I have, my female muscle lovin' friend tells me a couple of weeks before the Tampa Pro, a new crush - Barbie Titus. Do you know her? Well, yes, we do. As my friend was finding out, and many have found out before him, Barbie is not a muscle woman you come across and then forget about, and the fact she's never featured on the blog before today is, according to editorial, nothing less than a crime. Do her justice now, you hear! screamed JJ as I left his office to start work on this, our first Barbie post.

No pressure then.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

She first crops up around four years ago as a Figure competitor, winning an NPC Europa show (left) then placing 4th in her class at the Nationals. Even between those two shows she appears to have come a long way, and the (sort of trademark) look - that look that you don't forget - is already established. "Barbie" - must be a fair bit of pressure on women given that name, pressure to conform to it, if you see what I mean.

imagebam.com

And in many ways this Barbie does conform - the long blond hair, the spectacular enhancements, the flawless styling and make-up, and so on. But in so many other ways, she is as far from the "ideal" of her plastic namesake as it is possible to get. Big and strong, with that slightly-squarer-than-a-woman-"should"-have jaw (so beloved of female muscle heads). She's so Barbie-like feminine and yet so masculine, it's easy to imagine how many non-heads she has confused the hell out of as they find themselves both deeply repulsed by and deeply attracted to her at the same time.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

2015 was a big year for Barbie. After another unsuccessful crack at a pro card in Figure at the Jr. USAs, she decided to switch to Physique. Back at the Nationals it was a case of too soon, but she made an impression - not least in the FMS office. It would be a whole year until we saw her on stage again, but it was well worth the wait. Again she was at the Nationals, but this time she was ready, won her class and turned pro. There's not nearly enough stage shots of her from the show, but she's spectacular in every one.

imagebam.com

Interviewed just after she'd left the stage, Barbie already knew when she'd make her pro debut. Don't be fooled by her "I’m the worst decision maker ever, I just keep training..." IG persona. Her career to date would suggest she knows exactly what she's doing.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

The pro debut was at the end of August last year at the Hurricane Pro. Barbie arrived among the IFBB pro elite and was good enough - even to my untrained eye obviously superior in every way to her Nationals' winning package - for 4th in a very strong line-up. Beaten only by Olympians Heather Grace, Michaela Aycock and Melissa Pearo, she finished ahead of hardened hard pros like Maria Rita Penteado, Angela Debatin and Olga Belyakova. She promptly disappeared back into her muscle-building bunker, but the female muscle lovin' world had been notified now.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

One way of gauging just how taken the collective we are with a competitor is to see how many compilations of their Instagram clips are up on YouTube. Those channels where you find those kinds of clips, they don't - surprise surprise - necessarily do it for love but rather for the advertising possibilities. Many edits of the same woman suggests she's a nice little earner for them. She can be found on numerous such channels, with Fitness Instagram leading the way with six Barbie comps at the time of writing. It's also worth bearing in mind that Fitness Instagram tends towards Bikini and "Fitness models" - more mainstream-y in their appeal, and therefore more likely to get clicks. Barbie is one of their more muscular muses, combining muscle mass and mass appeal.

She "comps" well. She doesn't post that regularly, but when she does it's pretty much always a winner. Her IG has more clips of her training than anything else, and the faces she pulls and the noises she makes should be an editor's dream. Why they insist on putting (generally) crappy soundtracks over her I am at a loss to explain.

imagebam.com

I'm also struggling to nail exactly how old Barbie is. Two fairly grown-up children have come out of her beautiful body - this much we know. And we also know that she doesn't, or at least hasn't, competed in a Masters' class when the chance to do so has been there - at the Hurricane Pro last year, for example, which was an over 40 Masters. So, if pressed, we'd have to say Barbie must be in her late-30s. Maturing nicely.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

And so to Tampa and her second appearance as a pro. Not the most photographed woman on the stage - I get the feeling she has a limited number of poses, all playing to her strengths of course (again, she knows exactly what she's doing) - either by our hero Mr Rivieccio nor by J.M. Manion for NPC News Online, but every single one is worth a little of your time. And once again, for such a relatively inexperienced competitor, Barbie over-achieved. 6th in a 35-woman line-up, and interestingly the very first Physique routine from the show put up by Maximum Muscle Report - a nod to the broader appeal she has than some of her higher-placing rivals perhaps?

It's not shot from the greatest of angles, but glutemen won't be complaining...

As far as I know my female muscle lovin' friend won't be either. Last I heard he was still on his Barbie exploration trip, and still loving every image and clip of her he was clicking on (no doubt with his left hand). It would hardly be surprising to discover there are heads all over the world doing exactly the same thing, as well as a few non-heads, confused as to why, but finding they can't help themselves nonetheless.

Tampa: Tease

I'm writing this last Friday, and the female muscle meat feast that is the Tampa Pro is already under way. As well as a host of other images from in and around the show, photos from the Figure and Physique prejudging are already up on NPC News Online. The line-ups in those divisions are truly immense, 35 Physique Dreams and a mind-boggling 49 Figure Phenoms. We're all going to be busy over the next few days!

imagebam.com imagebam.com

I was pleased to notice a good few Figure competitors insisting on putting cheeky and/or downright brazen flexing into their presentations. Julie Mayer, who we enjoyed recently at the LA Pro, went for the cheeky tricep flex while transitioning between front and side-on poses - known in my house as "The Gillon", after Cyd, who was the first competitor I ever noticed doing this. Amber Eutsey, meanwhile, just went ahead and flexed her bicep. Boom! If it was up to me, that would automatically make her the champion. Sadly, or thankfully depending on your viewpoint, it isn't.

imagebam.com

In the Physique division, Autumn Swansen didn't just look good after her make-up had been applied by Jamie Pinder - now there's a hotel room this boy would have liked to have been on the inside of. She looked pretty amazing on stage as well.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

How the judges decide among so many women is beyond me. My brain, and possibly other parts of my body too, would simply explode under such a female muscle barrage. Would it, I wonder, be helpful to have some sort of pre-prejudging at the check-in? It might encourage fewer baggy, muscle-hiding tops and more beautiful figure-revealing dresses at least. Kendyl Seawright and Maggie Watson would have claimed an early advantage on Swell's (sticky) Figure scorecard if so.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

But for all the Figure and Physique fun, Tampa has, in recent years, established itself as the greatest FBB show on earth outside of the Rising Phoenix. I'm not quite sure it's going to have the sort of line-up we've delighted in before - no Sheila Bleck, no Virginia Sanchez, for example. And apparently no Angie Salvagno either.

imagebam.com

This was Angie, looking exciting and feeling excited a week and a half ago. Can’t wait to finally compete again after 7 years!!!! she told her IG following. Since then, however, not a peep from the normally hyper-active Angie, and as there's not a single pic of her at the athlete's meeting or check-in or anywhere else I can find, I'm assuming something has happened to stop her being at the show and I'm hoping that she's all OK.

imagebam.com

Alina's there though - competing, not just Wings of Strength cheerleading. No doubt who Annie'll be rooting for. It's been a while since she's got her hands on Alina!

imagebam.com imagebam.com

And surely the contest will be between the great uncrowned and Britain's finest (and runner-up in 2016 and 2017) Lisa Cross - a woman who never turns up to the check-in in anything less than a beautiful tight dress. It's a measure of Lisa's progress over the last few years and how far Alina's shooting star has fallen since she had her injury worries that I am talking about them as rivals for the same title, and I say that fully aware that by the time you read this it will be apparent if I have got it badly wrong!

imagebam.com

So I cunningly distract you from the previous paragraph with the help of Irene Andersen enjoying the Florida sunshine. Such incredible muscle mass - I bet the water level fell quite considerably when Irene hauled herself out of there.

Tampa. It'll already have happened by the time you read this, but as I write it's only just begun. To say I am a little bit excited would be something of an understatement - though even I am not quite as excited as Ashley Hromyak seems to be...

Summer Lovin': My Summer of Shannon

imagebam.com imagebam.com

"The Summer of Shannon" began back at the Jr USAs at the start of May. Though she was runner-up in her class, she didn't win her pro card, but she did make quite an impression. "Never really noticed her before but..." posts went up all over. The body, yes, but the majority actually mainly emphasised her beauty. And her smile.

imagebam.com

Suddenly she was everywhere.

A shoot for Muscle Angels with Annie followed; another with James Cook for FTVideo (Rivieccio Mrs and Mr). Sean Nelson, schmotographer extraordinaire, worked with her, and so did Her Biceps - the one site that had noticed Shannon last year - again.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

At the same time, clips of Shannon's cam shows started to appear in some of the murkier parts of the FBB lovin' world. Places where you only need to subscribe (for no charge) to a particular user who has such things in order to get to see them.

imagebam.com

She smiles a lot while she's doing her shows as well - the clips I've seen anyway. Apparently, Shannon truly does love showing off her muscles. Not for her the stock-in-trade sultriness of so many other performers. Instead, Shannon does joy.

imagebam.com

She can - perhaps archly so - be somewhat coy at times, and she's not completely uninhibited (if you expect your performer to dangle it in front of camera for you, you'll be disappointed). But at the same time she knows which parts are her best parts, flexes slow, hard and long, and seems completely unable to keep her hands off herself for more than a few seconds. She also does great lingering, passionate bicep kissing - the best I've seen since Dena (best ever) would regularly give her own a big wet one.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

She says all the right things too, "I wanted you to see me with a little more definition before my show..." and so on, an attitude always guaranteed to get me wondering which card the wife is least likely to notice I've topped up the HBCam credits with.

imagebam.com

With more photo shoots to come, and - I hope - more cam show recordings as well, "The Summer of Shannon"... OK, "MY Summer of Shannon" looks set to run and run.

imagebam.com

Especially if the wife doesn't notice that payment...

Summer Lovin': Michelle's Body Love

The reader is required to mentally remove the "G"...

imagebam.com

I am attending a wedding this weekend, so I went dress shopping this past Sunday, reveals muscle beauty Michelle Bresnahan. It was just one of those days where nothing looked or felt "right". No matter what I tried on it just didn’t do it for me. I started thinking my arms looked too big, or my shoulders were too wide, and wished I had some sort of boob to fill out a top. I left empty-handed.

Hard to believe such a stunner could have a crisis of body confidence.

imagebam.com

Happily, however, it wasn't long before Michelle was seeing her "problem" from, let's say, "our" point of view... Then I thought to myself, these clothes fit the average person and I strive every day to be above average. I push myself to my limits each and every day in and out of the gym. Instead of feeling bummed about not fitting well in a certain mold, I should be damn proud to stand out and not fit that mold.

Quite.

And Michelle even made sure those big arms, wide shoulders and self-made chest were nicely pumped before heading to that wedding. Showing off for her IG following before she showed off in front of the assembled wedding party - hair and make-up intact...

I don't think we've ever featured Brazilian thunderella Vivi Winkler before, but she's probably not unfamiliar to (a very well-informed female muscle head like) yourself.

Could you spot her in a line-up though?

The Sexhibitionists: Cindy's Game

imagebam.com

And so, to end our week of show offs, perhaps the greatest tease of them all.

imagebam.com

These days with Cindy it's a lot more about the t&a than it is about the muscle, and it's pretty much been that way since she unveiled her enhanced look a few years ago.

Few women show so much so often but Cindy never shows it all.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

It's the hook that keeps us coming back for more. How exactly is she going to expose herself without actually exposing herself this time? we wonder, imaginations running wild. How could the next photo shoot possibly be any hotter than the last?

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Most recently though, there was a kind of new land(olt) mark in this ongoing saga.

I confess I did have to look at the pic long and hard before I could truly believe what Cindy was giving me the privilege of seeing for the first time after all these years...

imagebam.com

There they are. Zoom in - the pic can take it - and enjoy.

Where will she go from here?!
