FBBMTV

You might not have otherwise given the song much attention, but when female muscle features in music videos it's difficult not to leave your personal tastes aside and get excited. One day, a better man than me is going to make an exhaustive list of every example of FBBMTV, but for today I've picked four of my own favourite examples.

CAROLYN CHESHIRE in Pump It Up by Melle Mel

DOROTHY HERNDON in Reach by Martini Ranch

Shall we have a little break?

Wings of Strength

I think there's been a misunderstanding, and I want to clear things up.

More than a few bloggers have been claiming that
Jacqueline "Jay" Fuchs wants them to soap/scrub/rinse/dry her back. Well, she doesn't. It's me she wants.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Good. I feel better for that.

So much better in fact that I am prepared to show I hold no grudge whatsoever with those making misguided claims concerning the above scenario. Let's face it, Jay does have a really really wonderful back and all, exactly the kind of back you'd exchange a body part for the chance to soap up, but she isn't (thankfully) the only muscle angel with such wings of strength. And I'm not a greedy man, so to show there's no hard feelings, let's say I get to do Jay, and you can take your pick from the others...

Now, that's not such a bad deal, is it?

imagebam.com

I mean, if I'm prepared to offer you Jill Rudison, Ms Quads Not Included herself, and all her glorious muscular detail above, you know I'm feeling generous. Jill, I'll say when she pops round for one of her bi-weekly visits to FMS HQ, Jill, I'm sorry I won't be able to check those cuts out from now on, you've had your last special massage off me, I'll say. But don't worry, [insert your name here] is going to take over, and he (or she) is quite the muscle worship artist, I'll say. And I know that he (or she) is really looking forward to getting his (or her) hands on those rhomboids of yours, I'll say.

imagebam.com

Or how about the beautiful Russian figure competitor Olga Chestoperova? Granted, she's considerably less well-known than La Rudison, but if Olga from behind isn't rocking your boat, she was recently featured looking absolutely glorious on the mighty PumpItUp, so check that out before you ask me what else I've got on offer.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Here (left) we have another of Swell's big 2014 crushes, the recently-competed Brooke Black, in a selfie that wouldn't have looked out of place if we had posted it as part of last week's Muscle in a Dress celebration. Or if Brooke doesn't appeal (iffy reputation and all), then I'm sure the scenario on the right will. Just take a moment to put yourself in that room (behind the camera, perhaps?) and think about what happens next... And no, I don't know who they are. A Google Images search turned up "Best Guess - female muscle porn star"(!!!) which hardly narrows it down these days.

imagebam.com

Feast your eyes on the beautiful symmetry, the insane definition, and on the big, full muscles all over the piece of female muscle art that Ayanna Carroll has created with her back. Feast your eyes as you imagine the fun you could have if tomorrow was the start of a long weekend, Ayana was in this shape, had just handed you a bottle of oil with the instruction to "use it all", and you had nothing else to do.

imagebam.com

Ok. Some of you, I see, are still playing hardball. Well, perhaps Marthe Sundby's post-pump lat spread might make you change your mind about continuing to hold out for Jay. Look: it ain't gonna happen, pal, so give it up. I am offering you Marthe! I'd tell her to go and do her post-pump posing somewhere else. I'd tell her to go and do her post-pump posing at your place. I would do that for you, I really would.

imagebam.com

And if you are still here, then this, I'm afraid is my final offer. Virginia, an oiled up explosion of muscle, and it's you - YOU - she wants to get top of hers undone (her fingers are a bit on the sticky side you see) so you can really get busy exploring...

Enjoy!

And a big shout out to Insane Muscle Girls for bringing the Jay pics to FMS' attention - although the ludicrous claim that Jay really wants him, rather than me, to do the soaping does detract from what is otherwise an absolutely flawless blog.

By the way, the timing of today's post, with its rather contrived title, is no coincidence. Wings of Strength (the website) should be applauded by all of us female muscle heads for their support of female bodybuilding over the last few years, and in Chicago today the latest event made possible by their sponsorship comes to a close.

Omaha: A Good Day

Yes, FMS continues to milk the Omaha Pro show, and makes no apologies whatsoever for doing so. This was, in case you need reminding, the first new show on the pro female bodybuilding calendar for many years, and, even better, it was a competition where, for once, the men were mere hors d'oeuvres, the women the meat and potatoes.

imagebam.com
The Stars of the Show

For both the Omaha show, and the Toronto Pro the week before it, I found myself, for the first time, following the show more via the social media of the women themselves than through the reporting of established bodybuilding resource sites. For Toronto, a bigger show at which the pro female bodybuilding is one of many contests, this was a choice made partly out of the desire to get the results and images etc. as fast as possible - the major sites tend to be a little tardy in putting up images and results from the FBB show. It's just not a priority for them among all the male and bikini-type classes. But such was the pleasure I took in the self-reportage from Toronto of the likes of Tonia Moore (via her Instagram) that when it came to Omaha, I chose to get my news from the women, rather than trusting the big sites to give me news of them.

Tonia Moore and Jill Rudison

The Best Comedy Double Act in Female Muscle?

What the women can give you that the major sites can't is a no-holds-barred account of their final preparations, unique backstage candids from the show, and, once the show is over, all the pigging-out they do! Granted, the images are, quite obviously, not the kind of high quality stuff that the contest photographer is capable of producing. If you want that kind of detail - photographic detail - then stay with the big sites. But if it's a different kind of detail you crave - the minutiae of a female bodybuilder's final preparations, for example, or who travels/rooms with who, or who does whose make-up and so on - then who better to be your guide than the women themselves?

Judy Gaillard
imagebam.com imagebam.com
Checking in (left, via NPC News Online) and waiting for showtime (via her Facebook)

That's not to say that all of the images the women post of themselves and their fellow "Sisters of Iron" are shaky low-quality ones. Far from it. After all, if you are a female bodybuilder with the chance to have your picture taken with nine-times Ms Olympia Iris Kyle, the chances are you are going to want to make it a good 'un. And they all, without exception, seem to have grabbed the opportunity. Often more than once!

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com
Alana Shipp, Anne Freitas, Tonia Moore and Margie Martin get starstruck

Iris was there as a guest star for the show (along with Mr Olympia Phil Heath) and was also, apparently, acting as Rene Marven's coach. However, she was, of course, generously handing out pearls of wisdom to all and sundry. Anne Freitas posted the above photo of herself and the woman she calls "The Queen" on her Instagram with a big thank you message to Iris. I will not forget your advice, she wrote.

Rene Marven, Alana Shipp and Margie Martin

Beauty, bling and smiles

Easy for Iris to show such generosity towards Anne when she's not competing against her, you might think, but this kind of camaraderie seemed to extend throughout the entire field, with all the competitors looking to be so at ease with each other. Laying back and waiting for the finals, reads the description of the above pic on Margie's Instagram, almost as if she, Rene and Alana were teammates, not rivals.

imagebam.com

And then there was the almighty, twelve-woman posedown, the images of which reminded us of our posts from back in April, where, with the help of Tanya Bunsell's Strong and Hard Women, we identified both the physical AND spiritual highs experienced by the female bodybuilder at a contest.

imagebam.com

We see, in the all-inclusive posedown, the women experiencing the physical and spiritual high both individually and as one, in a kind of collective peaking - although perhaps some of them are peaking just that tiny little bit more than others - for example, Rene Marven seems to be really really enjoying herself!!!

imagebam.com

And after all that it's time to stuff your face with all the stuff you have been craving throughout your crazy contest diet. To get your glam on, to have a drink and celebrate your achievement. Today, the smile of the ever-beautiful and newly-married Helle (now Trevino, formerly Nielsen) seems to be saying, was a good day.

100 Biceps: Day 5

AN OMAHA GUNSHOW

Despite Shannon Peters' absence, there was plenty for the the female muscle head to enjoy at the brand-spanking-new Omaha Pro earlier in the month. The fact that it was a mainly female show, with women's bodybuilding AND physique (compared to the chaps having just physique, whatever) was a pleasure in itself.

ANNE FREITAS: 044, 045
imagebam.com imagebam.com

Two shows into the contest season, and Brazilian women are two for two. After Simone Oliveira's win in Toronto, compatriot Anne "Freaky" Freitas (and that's just my pet name for her by the way) won her second pro title in three years and in the process ensured she'll be appearing at the Olympia for the third year in a row.

AYANNA CARROLL: 046
imagebam.com

And even before the show kicked off, physique competitors like Ayanna Carroll (above) were demonstrating that there would be serious muscle, serious biceps, outside the bodybuilding show. Ayanna and her guns finished 5th.

JILL RUDISON: 047, 048
imagebam.com imagebam.com

And in the physique class, well, you know, Swell only has eyes for Jill at the moment - even when Dani Reardon's in the line-up! You may or may not share my enthusiasm for her bicep tattoos (which is based entirely on my fantasy about the tats indicating exactly where Jill wants me to squeeze for her pleasure) but surely you can't be immune to her head/nose in the air on stage arrogance.

Incidentally, check out the new styles available at the place "Where the Pros Shop and the Jaws Drop", Quads Not Included. And all of them beautifully modelled by Jill's extraordinary, never-ending and copiously muscled legs.

But the bulk of the bulk did, of course, come in the bodybuilding show, much of it matured nicely and adorning the familiar frames of some hardcore long-time faves.

TONIA MOORE: 049, 050;
JUDY GAILLARD:
 051
imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com
MELODY SPETKO: 052;
WENDY McCREADY:
 053, 054

Tonia Moore pouted and preened her way to 4th place (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with pouting and preening on stage, but honestly, if you can find a picture from the contest where she isn't pouting, please let me know). Judy Gaillard scraped into the top ten, but I'll bet the moment she flexed her massive, shapely peak (above) more than one spectator felt the ecstasy. Melody Spetko, a more than reasonable candidate for the first ever President of the all-female WIFBB, finished a place higher in 9th, looking beefy and beautiful. And Britain's own Wendy McCready was 6th, her highest finish since her 3rd place in Toronto two years ago, and, as ever, she was a fine sight to behold. She's always immaculately polished in her presentation, and always covered in ripped and curvy muscle. Always a treat.

RENE MARVEN: 055, 056
imagebam.com imagebam.com

And then there was Rene. She wasn't hitting the most muscular as much as we've come to expect. Bad thing. And she wasn't as ripped, or "dry" as I believe they say in the game, as we have seen her in the last couple of years either, but to be honest, I kind of like the look. I'd say she looked "juicy" if the connotations of that word were not so negative in FBI circles, so instead I'll say she looked "succulent". As well as gorgeous, and, of course, massive. Like nut-bustingly massive.

And by the way, it's Marven with an E, not Marvin as some websites have, lazily in my opinion, got into the habit of sometimes listing her. What's it cost to check?

ALANA SHIPP: 057, 058
imagebam.com imagebam.com

Smaller, but perfectly-formed, first year pro Alana Shipp flexed her way to another top 6 finish after her 2nd place in Toronto. Once again, she looked as hard as the proverbial granite, and I bet there was quite a lot of hardening going on elsewhere in the auditorium whenever Alana treated the crowd to a view from the rear. Exquisite.

MARGIE MARTIN
imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

And last, but absolutely no means least, the woman who's making my "Special Favourites" folder bulge like her jeggings do when her thighs are in them, Lady MVM herself, Margie Martin. What a sight she is! Traffic-stopping muscle, heart-stopping beauty. What more could a red-blooded man want? If I hadn't spent so much seed over these pictures while choosing them, I wouldn't be able to type right now.

[And no numbers for Margie cos we featured those super-fine guns of hers on Saturday (#013, 014) 'case you were wondering. We said 100, and we ain't gonna cheat!]

And once again, here are these magnificent women showing the world (well, OK, the bit of the world that's watching, anyway) that a mostly-female show can be a success. Granted, Margie collecting her $2,000 for second place isn't going to make millions of women want to get rich in the female muscle pro ranks, but the money is clearly not what it's all about. Check out Margie's Instagram, or Tonia Moore's, or the Instagram of any of the women who competed. See what you think they do it for.

Female bodybuilding. Still dying, apparently.

Well, not in my house. And certainly not in Omaha.

What We Have Been Thinking about When We Have Been Thinking about the Toronto Pro

1 - THE WOMAN WHO WE THOUGHT SHOULD WIN WON

For once, the general consensus among the female muscle lovin' brethren actually agreed with the judges decision. And that is not something you get to say every day. As one forum poster put it, This is the first bodybuilding contest I can remember where the woman who was deserving of first place was actually rewarded with it.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com
Your winner. Their winner. THE WINNER: Simone Oliveira

2 - COLETTE NELSON: HOW DO I FEEL?

The great and much-loved Colette returned to the stage after four long years. Not, unfortunately, as a bodybuilder, but if we have to take Colette in the physique division or not at all, we'll take her in physique every time. Just awesome to see Colette Nelson back, said one forum poster. Hopefully it'll inspire Gina Davis, Jody May, Jennifer McVicar and Nicole Ball to make comebacks too! Amen to that.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
Back and beautiful: Colette Nelson

3 - ENVALL'S LAT MEAT

Although Simone had by far the best package overall, FBB legend Christine Envall proved she has still got it in the back department. So wide. So bloody THICK!!!

imagebam.com imagebam.com
A well-deserved top 6 finish for "Big Chris"

4 - NEW SHIPP ON THE DOCK

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Just as Juanita Blaino had done in Chicago last year, Alana Shipp finished runner-up in her first ever pro show. And, as with the winner, there were no complaints from the fans about who the judges awarded second prize to. Great legs, razor-sharp definition, and a wonderfully-balanced overall shape, Alana has probably already done enough to ensure she will feature at the 2014 Ms Olympia.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
Having a blast backstage, Alana said on her Facebook page during the show (with Orlandina Balan and Margie Martin). Looks like a lot of fun there, doesn't it?

Which kind of segues into...

5 - HOW HOT IS MARGIE MARTIN?

I seem to be going through a bit of an Afro-American muscle goddesses phase. Musclemaria, featured in Ts of the Day a week or so ago would definitely be one, and then, of course, there's the divine Juanita Blaino again... Anyway, Margie, also making her pro debut, is definitely also doing it for me. How hot? Is "Vesuvial" a word? Definition: (adj.) hot like Vesuvius. It isn't a word, you say? Well, it is now.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
The Vesuvial Margie Martin takes 4th on her pro debut

6 - NOT SURE ABOUT... Part I

A) What happened to Roxanne Edwards? She appeared at the pre-judging, but on the final scorecards her number (70) was left blank. B) Virginia Sanchez's new hairdo, white posing suit and lack of tanning. Consensus seems to be that Spain's biggest was somewhat fortunate to get 3rd place while not at her best.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
Where did Roxanne's name and Virginia's tan go?

7 - MINDI O'BRIEN OUTMUSCLES THE FIELD

She of the legendary "fitness" biceps returned to competition at Toronto last year and finished 3rd in the Physique class. She followed that up with a string of top 4 finishes at other shows, but came in a disappointing 15th at the Olympia. Good to see her back again (airborne, see #8) and winning! PINCH ME!!! said Mindi on her Facebook. What an incredible weekend. Winning is the most incredible feeling in the world!

imagebam.com imagebam.com
Both Mindi and her hubby (Masters Physique) left with the winner's trophy

8 - SHE FLIES THROUGH THE AIR WITH THE GREATEST OF EASE...

No surprise that a former fitness champ like Mindi O'Brien should pull a move or two out of the bag for the finals - even going completely airborne at one stage, but great to see other physique competitors also showing off their fantastic gymnastic abilities during their routines, not least Swell crush Jill Rudison, who finished 4th.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
Mindi and Jill's marvellous moves. More of this please!

9 - NOT SURE ABOUT... Part II

If Fabi had begun life in physique we'd all be saying, "Wow! Look at her! Beautiful, sexy, and so much potential for packing on some serious muscle. She should switch to bodybuilding..." I hate to be negative, and quite honestly, if I don't think about who I'm looking at and just focus on how she looks now, Fabi does look great. The problem is I just can't forget how magnificent (and massive) her muscles once were.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
Fabiola Boulanger, then (2010) and now

10 - SIMONINHA'S GOLD POSING SUIT

It's not called a "modesty suit". It's a posing suit, a suit to pose in. Back in the day they were barely there, now the tops are, for me, unnecessarily large and cover far too much. So it was wonderful to see Simoninha's gold number struggling to contain her, and the view from the rear was all the more espetacular for the lack of fabric hindering the spectator's enjoyment of her big and sexy Brazilian muscles.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com
It's a shame she changed her suit for the finals!

This is, of course, by no means a comprehensive survey of the shows, just a few of the things that have made an impression on FMS. For more coverage you can visit FTVideo for Gene X. Hwang's peerless photography, or the galleries at Muscular Development and RxMuscle, who also have an interview with Simoninha that contains a bit of on stage footage of her, and that is definitely worth 5 minutes of your time.

Enjoy!
