Summer Break I: Day 3

In the past, FMS has tended to close up shop for weeks over the summer, usually during August. We've tried not to leave you FMS-less on those occasions, and have consequently come up with ideas like Legs Month, August Picture Post, and, last year, While the Slave's Away to tide you over while we're sunning ourselves.

This year we're not shutting up the offices for one long holiday but a series of shorter breaks, but our commitment to give you at least one stunning example of female muscle heat to look at every day remains. So this year it's Summer Breaks, and this week we're taking our first of the year. We hope you enjoy our selections.

BRAZILIAN WONDER #1



From the (sadly these days necessarily) secretive world of our old friend C. Moore Glootz comes the first of three Brazilian Wonders this week on FMS. Lucky people!



Wonder #1 is Janaina Pinheiro, or, to be more precise, Janaina's beautiful bum.




It's not, I grant you, the kind of sun-obscuring wide load that seems to be so common in her native land, but something altogether tighter, more sculpted, more honed.



And, dare I say it, all the more beautiful for it.



And she does like showing it off, doesn't she?

A New Golden Age? Part VIII

A follow-up to FMS' recent conversation with PumpItUp regarding the past and present "Golden Ages" today. Big big love to JT for this stimulating (in thought and...) piece.

I too started with traumatic magazine-buying missions, but I don't miss those days. I have a theory that the internet 'Golden Age' really took off with the quality improvements in HD images and videos. In particular, this coincided with the rise to the top of one of the most incredible stars of the past few years: Alina Popa.



I remember seeing images of her 'before' things really took off. I'm thinking the short blond hair, big chunky muscles... She had 'something' but didn't especially stand out.




Then she went high definition.



Not just the images, but Alina too. There are images of Alina that are almost impossibly beautiful: the sharpness of her muscle definition; the shiny bulging peaks, abs, quads; the sharp beauty of her cheekbones...



Everything worked together and we could see her in absolute clarity.



Alina's transformation into a high definition muscle goddess was made doubly impressive as the images of her changed to high definition at the same time.



For me, Alina characterises now as being THE Golden Age for female muscle fans because all these images are readily available and can stay this sharp for ever.



No dodgy scans of creased and crumpled magazine pages!

Marthe in the USA: Homecoming

Life turns quickly that's for sure. After homecoming from a magic trip to the US I have been sick with flu for a week, went through a break-up, no training or decent food. Life hits hard sometimes, I have survived cancer and many battles. Hard hits only make you stronger. Fighters fight and I will always fight for my dreams.



It's time to go back to to the gym and fight for improvements again. Back in the cave for the winter. I'm going to train harder than ever. Aiming high, off-season gains are on, I'm going to fight hard and climb step by step closer to my dream.



I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles...



News that Marthe is single again might have got one or two of you dear readers believing in miracles too I imagine! It's here that we come to the end of our week devoted to her, but it won't take a miracle to get Marthe back on FMS though.

Marthe in the USA: She'll Be Back

I'm thankful for my struggle, because without it I wouldn't have stumbled across my strength, Marthe says (which is, I imagine, a reference to her battle with cancer). And like many people who have a brush with death, Marthe seems to have come out the other side on full power, ready to take every day by the scruff of the neck.

At 40 it's only going to be better, she says. A dear friend told me that [and] I believe. She turned 40 in April, her pro card arrived at the beginning of August, and by the end of that month she had taken herself and those amazing legs of hers to the US and competed as one of the elite of the sport for the very first time.



Time of my life, Marthe writes. Not just on one, but on several of her Instagram posts from her US trip. Arriving in Atlantic City for her pro debut - time of my life. On performing her routine during finals - time of my life. Her shoot with Reg Bradford - time of my life. A stop in New York before heading home - time of my life...



Miss the US, she wrote as she posted the picture above (which, incidentally, in a week of GREAT pictures of Marthe has got to be one of my favourites - those LEGS, I am swooning all over the place!). Time of my life, she said once again. I'll be back!

Marthe in the USA: When Marthe Met Reg

Making memories and enjoying every minute of it, said Marthe of her post-contest shoot with the "gifted and awesome" femuscle photography legend Reg Bradford.




Bradford's been around since I've been into female muscle (and he was taking photos of female bodybuilders even before that). Much of his work in the late 80s and early 90s got seared into the memory and was rediscovered with glee when the internet came along - truly a case of once seen, never forgotten. And though his style has, out of necessity I imagine, become somewhat less iconic than it once was, given the right muscle model - ie. Marthe Sundby - he proves he can still very much cut it.




You could understand why Marthe chose Reg because she was a fan of his work equally well as if Reg made damn sure he didn't miss his chance with Marthe Stateside because he was a fan of hers. Either way, the results speak for themselves. A top body in top shape, a top photographer, smouldering in her favourite pink, and plenty of her smouldering in black too - giving Marthe a "dark and mysterious" edge, according to Reg. Don't get me wrong, I love a Marthe selfie as much as, if not a lot more than, the next man, but it's great to see her shot by a pro, "building an archive" as she puts it.




She looks stunning in these shots I think. Powerful yet feminine, strong and sensual, oozing with a sex appeal that comes from her self-confidence. Nothing to hide, says Marthe. Be proud of who you are and what you do. Flex with style and grace.
