Whether it's the pool or a (real or artifical) lake, there are cooling alternatives to the beach for the terminally land-locked when the mercury rises. Having said that though, it's hard to imagine any of these bodies truly having a cooling effect on the local environment, particularly Maria Garcia emerging Bond-girl-of-my-dreams-like from the pool in a Bikini that reveals only slightly less than no Bikini at all would.

Summer Lovin': Chunri

Last September, you may remember, Kim Ji-hyun (aka Chunri Kim) was struck down with a life-threatening illness just as she was looking as big, beautiful and thrillingly vascular as ever. Happily (and thanks to some swift, expert treatment), she not only survived, but was soon scheduling a return to competition in 2018.



And she made that return not in her native Korea but in Vancouver, at the "Pro Qualifier" event (held in tandem with the pro show itself) on the 7th/8th of July.




No disprespect intended to the other women in Ji-hyun's class, but incredibly (although why I am still surprised by these bizarre decisions is a mystery), this body was only considered to be good enough for 5th - even in a Canadian (ie. more female muscle friendly) show, it seems that the long arm of IFBB "law" is preventing "more muscular" Physique competitors from getting ahead in the division.

She didn't seem too upset afterwards, however.

Just over two years since we last saw her on the blog (she'd just graduated and competed for the first - and so far only- time), and just over a year since her last appointment with the surgeon after a serious knee injury, the beautiful body of brainy Brittni Kent makes a welcome return to FMS, and isn't she looking glorious?!



With extra ink, and now, apparently, an inhabitant of "Dimension C-137", Brittni doesn't seem to be getting all shredded for any reason other than she likes to be the girl with the 8-pack (and the pec veins). And to be honest, I'm not sure where or how FMS got hold of these far-far-too-racy-for Instagram pearls, but I am sure glad that we did.

Tube of the Week

THE LAST OF THE IRON SISTERS

The title, especially so soon after the events in Omaha last weekend, may look a little scary, but the second episode of Vice Sports' SWOLE series is an absolute treat.

We follow pro-bodybuilder Helle Trevino, says the blurb, as she prepares for the Rising Phoenix competition, and talk to 8-time Ms. Olympia Lenda Murray and the founders of Wings of Strength about how they're pushing to keep the sport alive.

The camera work is several professional cuts above the standard level of female muscle footage, but the groin-tingling backstage and on stage footage aside, it's the sight of Helle cooking her chicken, power-walking along Venice Beach, getting her nails done, and so on that appeals most to this fan of female muscle doing "normal" stuff.

SWOLE - two episodes into its series - will hopefully feature more female muscle in the future, so keep an eye on the VICE Sports YouTube channel. VICE are the people responsible for the channel Viceland. I wonder if Helle will make it onto UK TV?

Strange Fascination

Last week, I mentioned how much I enjoy clips of female bodybuilders walking, and illustrated the point with an FMC preview from 2012 starring Gillian Kovack.



In the clip, as you can see, Gillian is walking from one photo shoot location to another. She's in heels, wearing very little. She's oiled up, and absolutely magnificent, in her peakiest peak condition, so there's much to appreciate - so much in fact that I've found myself watching it over and over again again, just as I did when it first took my breath away five years ago. It never gets dull, and, I imagine, probably never will!

But last week I also found myself glued to a thirty-second clip of Figure phenom Sandra Grajales Romero. No photo shoot scenario, no oil, no bikini. OK, there a fair bit of Sandra's body on show, most notably her sensational back. And what's she doing? Pouring water from a big bottle into a small bottle. And I can't stop watching.

I've looped it a couple of times to allow better appreciation.



How mundane does what she's doing have to be before watching her gets boring?

Next week, Sandra does some dusting, and Lisa Cross adjusts the timer on her boiler to allow for British Summer Time. In her pyjamas. OK, I've made that up. Obviously Lisa would never wear pyjamas, but I am on the lookout for more clips of muscular women doing very mundane tasks. Any reader suggestions would be most welcome.

Arnold Classic 2017: I Wish...

I wish I was the backstage pizza delivery guy.



Though I wouldn't have lasted long in the job cos I would probably not have collected much money from the ladies. Heather Dees (left) would have definitely got a freebie for a single flex of that beautiful veiny bicep of hers, for example. Actually, if I'm honest, Heather would have got a freebie just for being Heather Dees.

I wish there were more strongwoman contests attached to bodybuilding events.



Not going to make a big impassioned argument for it, but I don't see how it could be anything but good. Might bring in a slightly bigger audience, showcases a different type of hot and hard woman, and adds a different type of competition to the event.

I wish all clothes shop assistants greeted you like this...



I would do a lot more clothes shopping if so. A LOT more. I'd be dragging the wife out to the lanes, where I'd see guys just like me, six bags in each hand, explaining to their better halves that there was plenty of time to drop into just one or two more boutiques before the parking expires. "You can never have too much gymwear, darling."

I wish the abs flash was compulsory at check-in.




So few women do it - trust me, I check these things religiously. Four out of thirty in the Physique International field represents an unusually bumper Abs Flash Rate (AFR). So much much love to B, Zoa, Cinzia and Diana for their blatant exhibitionism - if I'd been judging, they'd have started the contest with Abs Flash Bonus Points (AFBPs).

I wish I could see what that statue has seen.

How thick are those pecs?! If she ever decides Physique is for her and we see her flexing her delicious muscles in anger I may just die and go to heaven. Although having said that, if this is the future of Figure then Figure has a very big and very bright future indeed. Natalia is on the right as you look in case you were in any doubt.

I wish I was Ariel Khadr's wardrobe assistant, and/or I was going to that party.



I would certainly be smiling at least as much as the gingernut over Diana's shoulder.

I wish Miss Fit was a movie franchise. Starring Denise, of course.



And I can totally see Theresa as the nerdy (but ultimately equally kick-ass) assistant.

I wish "The Freaky 3" were the new "Charlie's Angels".



I've got thousands of these TV and movie ideas, by the way.

All terrific, as Donald would say.

And, though the Physique International field was amazing and all that...
