If they were lucky enough to be sticking a camera on Colette Nelson any time in the noughties, the schmotographer was pretty much guaranteed gold, and today's Towel Classic from the HerBiceps "Lost Archive" collection is, without question, exactly that.
Don't know how long it will last on YouTube, so I've uploaded it elsewhere for safe keeping - if it's not showing above on the page, then you'll be wanting to go here.
These days Colette is more about making other women look their best, offering training, tanning, and make-up services out of her New York base. None, as far as I can see, ever look anything like as good as she did back then. They're not even close.

What We Have Been Thinking about When We Have Been Thinking about the Toronto Pro
1 - THE WOMAN WHO WE THOUGHT SHOULD WIN WON
For once, the general consensus among the female muscle lovin' brethren actually agreed with the judges decision. And that is not something you get to say every day. As one forum poster put it, This is the first bodybuilding contest I can remember where the woman who was deserving of first place was actually rewarded with it.
Your winner. Their winner. THE WINNER: Simone Oliveira
2 - COLETTE NELSON: HOW DO I FEEL?
The great and much-loved Colette returned to the stage after four long years. Not, unfortunately, as a bodybuilder, but if we have to take Colette in the physique division or not at all, we'll take her in physique every time. Just awesome to see Colette Nelson back, said one forum poster. Hopefully it'll inspire Gina Davis, Jody May, Jennifer McVicar and Nicole Ball to make comebacks too! Amen to that.
Back and beautiful: Colette Nelson
3 - ENVALL'S LAT MEAT
Although Simone had by far the best package overall, FBB legend Christine Envall proved she has still got it in the back department. So wide. So bloody THICK!!!
A well-deserved top 6 finish for "Big Chris"
4 - NEW SHIPP ON THE DOCK
Just as Juanita Blaino had done in Chicago last year, Alana Shipp finished runner-up in her first ever pro show. And, as with the winner, there were no complaints from the fans about who the judges awarded second prize to. Great legs, razor-sharp definition, and a wonderfully-balanced overall shape, Alana has probably already done enough to ensure she will feature at the 2014 Ms Olympia.
Having a blast backstage, Alana said on her Facebook page during the show (with Orlandina Balan and Margie Martin). Looks like a lot of fun there, doesn't it?
Which kind of segues into...
5 - HOW HOT IS MARGIE MARTIN?
I seem to be going through a bit of an Afro-American muscle goddesses phase. Musclemaria, featured in Ts of the Day a week or so ago would definitely be one, and then, of course, there's the divine Juanita Blaino again... Anyway, Margie, also making her pro debut, is definitely also doing it for me. How hot? Is "Vesuvial" a word? Definition: (adj.) hot like Vesuvius. It isn't a word, you say? Well, it is now.
The Vesuvial Margie Martin takes 4th on her pro debut
6 - NOT SURE ABOUT... Part I
A) What happened to Roxanne Edwards? She appeared at the pre-judging, but on the final scorecards her number (70) was left blank. B) Virginia Sanchez's new hairdo, white posing suit and lack of tanning. Consensus seems to be that Spain's biggest was somewhat fortunate to get 3rd place while not at her best.
Where did Roxanne's name and Virginia's tan go?
7 - MINDI O'BRIEN OUTMUSCLES THE FIELD
She of the legendary "fitness" biceps returned to competition at Toronto last year and finished 3rd in the Physique class. She followed that up with a string of top 4 finishes at other shows, but came in a disappointing 15th at the Olympia. Good to see her back again (airborne, see #8) and winning! PINCH ME!!! said Mindi on her Facebook. What an incredible weekend. Winning is the most incredible feeling in the world!
Both Mindi and her hubby (Masters Physique) left with the winner's trophy
8 - SHE FLIES THROUGH THE AIR WITH THE GREATEST OF EASE...
No surprise that a former fitness champ like Mindi O'Brien should pull a move or two out of the bag for the finals - even going completely airborne at one stage, but great to see other physique competitors also showing off their fantastic gymnastic abilities during their routines, not least Swell crush Jill Rudison, who finished 4th.
Mindi and Jill's marvellous moves. More of this please!
9 - NOT SURE ABOUT... Part II
If Fabi had begun life in physique we'd all be saying, "Wow! Look at her! Beautiful, sexy, and so much potential for packing on some serious muscle. She should switch to bodybuilding..." I hate to be negative, and quite honestly, if I don't think about who I'm looking at and just focus on how she looks now, Fabi does look great. The problem is I just can't forget how magnificent (and massive) her muscles once were.
Fabiola Boulanger, then (2010) and now
10 - SIMONINHA'S GOLD POSING SUIT
It's not called a "modesty suit". It's a posing suit, a suit to pose in. Back in the day they were barely there, now the tops are, for me, unnecessarily large and cover far too much. So it was wonderful to see Simoninha's gold number struggling to contain her, and the view from the rear was all the more espetacular for the lack of fabric hindering the spectator's enjoyment of her big and sexy Brazilian muscles.
It's a shame she changed her suit for the finals!
This is, of course, by no means a comprehensive survey of the shows, just a few of the things that have made an impression on FMS. For more coverage you can visit FTVideo for Gene X. Hwang's peerless photography, or the galleries at Muscular Development and RxMuscle, who also have an interview with Simoninha that contains a bit of on stage footage of her, and that is definitely worth 5 minutes of your time.
Enjoy!

Pull Up of the Day: Marja & Brigita
MARJA
From front on, sir will note the pronounced 'teardrops' above the knees, the outstanding abdominal definition, and the volume and aesthetic curve of the biceps.
BRIGITA
In this rear angle view, sir may like to appreciate the explosive shoulders and the layers of thick muscle revealed across the back as the repetition is performed.
The results speak for themselves...
And, a bonus ball!
Colette Nelson reaches failure, again and again, but not for want of trying -
check out the shaking. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Prof. Pennypacker's Pectarium
from Pennypacker's diary 6th January 2012
Made my first gif today from a favourite clip with Christine Envall and learned a new word: 'forverse'. The alpha female is admired by a lesser woman, who runs her hands over Christine's shoulders and chest. Back and forth, back and forth. I'm as proud of this as I am any of my achievements as a mathematician and teacher, not because it was difficult, it's just rather satisfying to watch. A small contribution to the world of female muscle worship. I have posted it to one of the fan forums.
Some of you may recognise the professor's username 'Profetik' from one or more of the forums. His gif of Christine being touched up was the first of many he would make and post, gifs that would eventually make their way into The Pectarium.

Pennypacker on power
Envall and women like her, women who make little or no concession to the roles or norms associated with their sex, or, more accurately, seem to deliberately defy and transgress as far as possible from them, possess immense power. Of course this power is partly physical - they are extremely strong, but it is also mental - they are determined, bloody-minded almost, in their pursuit of such singular goals - and in addition to that, it is sexual. Yes, there are many men who would find them abhorrent (or at least profess to doing so), but at the same time there are also many men to whom she is the 'perfect' woman; a sexual fantasy come to life ...
... I wonder how I would react in the presence of such power. I was never what you might call 'good' with the ladies, never got to have much practice, but I doubt any man is prepared for his first encounter with such an abundantly powerful woman.
from Pennypacker's diary 6th January 2012
I dreamt of female bodybuilders last night. A commune of them I stumbled upon during my morning walk. I was utterly tongue-tied yet they knew what I was thinking and replied to my thoughts. Many of them were recognisable - Colette Nelson, Gina Davis, Denise Hoshor and Gayle Moher among them. I woke with the kind of morning glory I have not experienced since I was very very much younger. Is this new passion of mine enhancing my virility? I certainly hope so!
Many of the professor's diary entries from the last year of his life detail his rediscovered libido, his reinvigorated loins, and reinterest in masturbation. Many of these entries were used as evidence of his 'mental regression' by the contestants during the will hearing, but no firm scientific evidence was provided by the contestants' lawyers that vigorous and frequent masturbation reveals mental failings.
from Pennypacker's diary 18th March 2012
I am absolutely convinced that my passion is extending both my sexual life and my vocabulary. Two or three years ago I might have thought cable flyes was some kind of adventure sport. Now I know them when I see them. And I know I like them!
from Pennypacker's diary 20th March 2012
Came across a blog whose American author posts clips of himself masturbating over images of his favourite female beefcakes. I immediately went out and bought the first decent camera I could find and spent the rest of the afternoon trying to make my own version of such a clip. Nothing I'm totally happy with yet - though I am happy that I can masturbate like a teenager again. When I do make a satisfactory clip I am determined to send it to him. Maybe my 'tribute' will end up on his blog.
Throughout the remainder of the spring of 2012, as the old barn on his property was renovated and made ready to house The Pectarium, the professor's idea of what he was creating shifted quite significantly from a place to house an archive to a place in which he could indulge in the pleasures these extracts show he was already enjoying.
Enjoy yourself!

Heels II: Colette in Heels
I've been planning to devote a week of posts to the remarkable and ever-gorgeous Colette Nelson since forever. I can't quite put my finger on why I haven't got round to it yet, but today's post will, I hope, make up for the criminal lack of Colette on FMS until now. I wish I could say that I'm posting Colette today because she has announced her return to competition, but sadly, that's not the reason (unless you know something I don't!). In fact, today's post developed as I was raiding the FMS archive for our ongoing series of Heels posts during Legs Month. I simply found so many images of Colette's groin-activating body perched atop killer heels that in the end there was no option but to give her her own post. So here it is, finally, FMS' tribute to one of our all-time favourites, and, we imagine, probably one of yours too.

Classic images from Awefilms in Colette's beloved New York City, the city that owns my heart, as she calls it. The set of pics of her in the tiny red swimsuit at the lake in Central Park were particularly influential in Colette gaining ownership of my female muscle lovin' heart. Back from deep in the archive, it feels like meeting old friends again. Hot old friends who were more fuck-buddies than friends.
The WPW Max website has, by my reckoning, around thirty different photosets of Colette available, so the images I've chosen here really are just the peak of the bicep. It's not hard to understand why, during her career, Colette has been one of the most photographed female bodybuilders of all, not just by WPW and Ray Martin, but by all the major female muscle photo and video websites. Whatever she's wearing, whatever the location, whatever shape she's in, she's a winner every time. Try to recall a bad Colette Nelson photoset...

Colette says: My real passion for weight training began when I was 19, a freshman at MSU, I walked through the doors of the Powerhouse Gym and was awestruck by a woman working at the front desk. She was the first female bodybuilder I had encountered (outside of the pages of a magazine) and I had never seen such muscles on a woman before. I was totally intrigued by her appearance and inspired to see if I could transform my skinny body into a piece of muscular artwork. I think we can all agree that she has succeeded. For my money, there are few finer sights in this world than Colette's bikini-clad muscular curves standing on top of the kind of heels that were made to give you impure thoughts.
But before I go on about her facial and physical beauty any more, I think I should probably take a breather (we should all take a breather) and remember that this amazing woman is not just a stunning face and a devastating body. Colette didn't just spend her time at university getting hooked on muscle. She also gained Bachelor's (Dietetics and a minor in Dance) and Master's (Clinical Nutrition) degrees there. If you have heard her speak, for example, on HBO's Bryant Gumbel's Real Sports: Female Bodybuilding (you can watch Part 1 here and Part 2 here), you'll know that she is as intelligent, engaging and eloquent a spokesperson as female bodybuilding could ever wish for. And furthermore, she's the only female bodybuilder I know who has a link on her website to one of Dr Tanya Bunsell's pre-Strong and Hard Women research papers (co-authored with Chris Shilling), The Female Bodybuilder as a Gender Outlaw. Make no mistake, I find her intelligence at least as intoxicating as her physique.

Beauty, muscles, brains: what else could you possibly want from a woman? Passion? Talent? Well, Colette certainly has passion. She probably does everything with a passion, but let's just stick to female bodybuilding. She's not just a competitor. Colette is also a mentor. She advises on diet, training and posing. She choreographs and mixes music for routines. She designs and maintains female bodybuilders' websites. And she does hair and make-up and runs a spray tanning service at contests. I think it's safe to say she is 'passionate' about her sport with that level of involvement! And as for talent, her performances in the Flex and the City spoofs, her scintillating routines (examples here and here), need I go on?
Now, a little earlier I think I said something along the lines that Colette in a bikini was one of the finest sights in the female bodybuilding world. I stand by that. But I would add that another one of the finest sights in the female bodybuilding world is Colette Nelson in a tight-fitting dress standing on top of the kind of heels that were made to give you impure thoughts. So much woman packed into so little fabric...
And since the age of 12, before she had even dreamed of taking up bodybuilding, through her years as a fitness instructor, through university (both undergraduate and post-graduate), through her many years as a bodybuilder, she has been living with type I diabetes. You can read more about how this affects her life in an excellent article by Leigh Penman, Portrait of a Pioneer... Bodybuilding with Diabetes, so I won't go into it any further here. I will quote one of the comments connected with that article though, as I can't think of a better tribute to Colette to finish with...
If I hadn’t been informed of her health situation, I’d merely say she was magnificent. However, given the type I diabetic diagnosis, I’d add she is a magnificent role model too. That diagnosis is one of the most challenging ones to get for anyone. To overcome this and also be the absolute model of fitness and beauty is, well, incredible.
Amen. And in heels too.
Enjoy!
