The Schmoe

Today is one of those (all too) rare occasions when I get to plug a fellow female muscle lover's blog. "The Secret World of The Schmoe" is a new and most welcome addition to the literature of female muscle fandom, and an extremely literate one at that.

If you just want pictures, it's probably not for you.

But if you care for something a bit different, for some thought-provoking articles on this life of ours, articles that lack neither honesty nor humour, then look no further. I was impressed enough with the insight and quality of writing to seek to do an interview with its Irish author, and he was kind enough to answer my questions.

FMS: Let's start at the beginning...

The Schmoe: My first experience of muscle? Well, I first got hooked on strength about aged 7 watching repeats of Wonder Woman. When she bent a gun, I was mesmerised. Muscle fetish probably began while spotting bodybuilding contests on Screensport at around the same age.

imagebam.com

FMS: I'm meeting more and more female muscle heads online who say they also find male bodybuilders attractive, ie. their attraction is to muscle full stop. What about yourself?

The Schmoe: In terms of my general attraction, it's just women. I'm into all sorts of women physically and emotionally. Although very shy around women I feel attracted to them very easily. Hence when you combine that with muscles, it's like a dream come true. That said, as a sthenolagniac, I find muscles attractive of and by themselves. I don't really see this as controversial. Certainly from my private interactions with guys who like their FBBs huge, most would also find muscles attractive on men. I think it's illogical to say "Oh I love big muscles, but ONLY on men". I mean, at the end of the day, if you took one of the bigger women from the back and took off their bikini, you'd probably struggle to guess if they were male or female. I see my sthenolagnia as separate to my romantic attraction. Take away the muscles and I wouldn't have any interest in men. It's women I'm into, but nice muscles are nice muscles.

imagebam.com

FMS: You say on your blog that you're not a fan of "the sport". Has that always been the case, and if not, what turned you off following the competitions?

The Schmoe: I think I might have overstated not being a fan. What I mean is, what appeals to me about bodybuilding is the aesthetic aspect rather than the sporting aspect. I'd watch videos of contests or posing routines, but I wouldn't be focused on who is going to win, it's too subjective. To be honest, when you see the same people win the same contests year after year, be they male or female, I for one smell a rat. So I ignore the competition aspect of it from a fan perspective. To say I don't like the sport of bodybuilding would be an overstatement, but I don't watch it the same way I would watch a Gaelic football match (my favourite team sport) or even a darts match (my favourite individual sport). I don't view it in the same way I view sport, I view it in the way I view theatre.

imagebam.com
Now THAT'S what I call "great theatre"!

FMS: Before you were a female muscle blogger you wrote female muscle fiction, I believe.

The Schmoe: To be honest, most of my stories stay in my head. I've always been into writing generally, including muscle fiction, but I have a short attention span. It's a vicious circle because although these stories get me writing, they distract me from conventional writing. There is also a sexual arousal element to my muscle and strength fiction and as I stated in my latest blog post, when your taste in strength and muscle is as extreme as mine, it allows you to transcend the limits of reality, which can be interesting.

FMS: What made you put finger to keyboard and start a blog then?

The Schmoe: I have blogged on other subjects before under my real name. I would never use my real name or any identifiers for this blog as it is intensely private. However, given how much I live in my head with regards to this stuff, I thought there was an opportunity to blog about it. I'm actually a trainee therapist, so without wanting to sound like a cocky arsehole, I think I think about this sort of stuff on a deeper, more intellectual level than some others would. I thought this was a niche to be pursued - the thinking man's schmoe for want of a better term. Yes, OK, I get as horny and as sexual as the next schmoe, but I genuinely try to think about the reasons for my attraction to female muscles and strength - to engage with it. Also I think it's important for lovers of muscle to evaluate ourselves. I hold my hands up and admit that often I see the sexual fantasy, the overwhelming lust and excitement, but there is an athlete and a human being behind those photos that we get so turned on by. I would hate to think that I was ever dismissive of any FBBs.

imagebam.com

I cringe sometimes at some of the comments I leave on pics on sites like GWM, but I think sometimes our sexual side takes over. That's why I thought it was important in my posts to emphasise the great athleticism and strength of character of some of these amazing women, many muscle women have had to overcome huge obstacles. By the same token though, I also think it's important to put our hands up and say "Hey, you know what? Our love of muscle women doesn't make us bad people, perverts or some kind of malcontents." I think it is important to show the world that schmoes are capable of engaging intellectually and emotionally with the world of female muscle too.

imagebam.com

My message to the ladies out there is just because I might have sexual thoughts and fantasies about you from time to time doesn't mean I don't care what happens to you. I mean sure, your muscles are great, but I genuinely like to know that you are happy and healthy, that this isn't impacting your personal lives too much and to get a glimpse into your personalities. I guess my biggest hope essentially for the blog is for men like me to think of muscle women as more than a picture to be wanked to (not that there is anything wrong with that necessarily) and for them to think of us as more than just a horny, needy guy to put on an act for to get some cash out of. If both schmoes and muscle women could engage with my blog and get a glimpse into each other's worlds, well, I feel I'd have done something right.

FMS: How's that going so far do you think? Hopefully this interview will get you some more readers. Is there a particular post that you'd like to recommend that you think represents your style best?

The Schmoe: I'm happy enough with the blog so far except for the lack of comments on the posts. I know that people are genuinely reading the posts, but I'd like some debate. The article I would point to would definitely be "Love and Lust in the World of the Schmoe".

FMS: Good choice! OK, favourite FBBs.

The Schmoe: My favourite ever would probably be Melissa Coates as she was pre-surgery. For me she is probably the sexiest woman to ever draw breath. There were women with bigger muscles but none with the same balance of Adonis-like bulk and angelic beauty. I won't comment on the surgery, she is an adult, she is entitled to make her own decisions. Sue Price would have been another cracker too. Loads more, but I'd be here all night.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

FMS: And now?

The Schmoe: Again, I could be here all day so I'll be disciplined and give a top 3! Heidi Krochter, man she is something else! A tank, but with a great smile, a cheeky personality and a drive that is truly inspiring. Then you have Aleesha Young. What can you say? The woman is just a goddess.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

And even though I'd reluctantly put her at number 3, my biggest crush would probably be on Chleo Van Wyk. If you told me I could choose to date one muscle woman and be guaranteed that she'd say "yes", it's Chleo all day long. I mean Jesus her muscles are bordering on the superhuman, and that strength! She could break me in two, but she is just so gloriously cute, you get the impression she prefers to cuddle people than bear hug them. She's a million miles out of my league of course, but you just get the impression she's such a sweetheart that she'd let you down gently.

imagebam.com

FMS: Any Irish ladies we should be looking out for?

The Schmoe: You know what? I don't really follow the Irish scene, there's generally not enough muscle in Irish line-ups for my tastes. Fionnula McHale is just a vision from heaven though. Abs you could grate cheese on, the face of a supermodel, and curves in all the right places. Fair to say that if Fionnula doesn't float your boat, you badly need a new boat.

Thanks to The Schmoe for answering my (often very inane) questions!

Clip of the Week I

SUZY KELLNER: MIAMI BEACH

Shakily filmed on a phone. Poor sound quality, poor image quality.

And all over far too quickly.

But trust me, if you like female muscle strutting in public, if you like an FBB in tiny tiny shorts, if you like to see a muscle woman's bullet nipples all but busting through her vest, if you like a large helping of cocky arrogance with your female bodybuilder...

Well, then you are going to LOVE this!

Enjoy!

Wings of Strength to Strength

We recently praised Jake and Kristal Wood, aka Wings of Strength, for firstly saving in 2015, and then, within a year, presiding over a small but significant expansion in professional female bodybuilding. We've also recently highlighted and praised how Alina Popa (Jennie Roosa etc.) and Margie Martin (Brittney O'Veal) seem to have taken it upon themselves to ensure there is a new generation of female bodybuilders coming through to the pro ranks.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
The future: Jennie Roosa (left) and Brittney O'Veal

However, for female bodybuilders outside of the US and Canada, where national level shows can provide FBBs with pro cards, the problem of how to become part of this exciting new pro FBB world remained. At the Omaha Pro this year we saw how WoS - working with Alina Popa - provided Elena Oana Hreapca with a guest posing spot partly to highlight the quality of talent that had reached the top of the amateur FBB tree in Europe (and elsewhere) and simply had nowhere left to go.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Wings of Strength Facebook page, September 24th

As I write this the world has changed just a little. I am happy to say that amateur female bodybuilders in Europe, Central and South America, Australia, Asia and the rest of the world now have an opportunity to earn an IFBB Pro Card.
This also includes Canada and the US.
Announcing that the brand new IFBB Ms. Wings International will qualify three female pro bodybuilders in 2017 - one from each of the light, middle and heavy weight divisions.
This will all take place at the IFBB Wings of Strength Chicago Pro in early July of 2017 at the Tinley Park Convention Center. The three new pros will be eligible to compete in the Chicago Pro later that same weekend.
My wife Kristal and I would like to thank IFBB Professional League President Mr. Jim Manion and IFBB President Dr. Rafael Santonja for working with Mr. Tim Gardner and myself to provide a path to a pro card that has been absent for many women around the globe. We would also like to thank Ms. Oana Hreapca of Romania for shining a light on this need during her guest appearance in Omaha in 2016. We also extend our thanks to Mr. Jack Titone along with his dear wife Ms. Ann Titone for gracefully allowing us to highlight Ms. Hreapca during their Omaha Pro Show.
We at Wings of Strength are very excited about the coming year and the direction women’s bodybuilding is going. We rise!
Best Regards,
Jake Wood

Well that is good news!

Imagine! The best amateur FBBs in the world lining up against each other.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

From Europe, Oana; from South America, Flores Neide Souza Campos... I'm sold already! But as well as being an "international" event, North American women will be taking part too. That means you could see Oana and Flores and Theresa Ivancik (assuming she hasn't decided to stick with Physique permanently!) on the same stage.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

I'm almost too thrilled to think of the names of other women from around the world who could compete! There must be a whole bunch of Brazilians whose names are not coming into my excited mind right now. Australians, Asians, Kashma! Kashma could be there!!! From the UK, IBFA champion Christal Cornick, or the rising young star Maz Burn now have a potential route through which to follow Lisa into the pro ranks.

And then there's the possibility of...

imagebam.com

Who would you love to see at the 2017 Ms Wings International?
Who have I forgotten? Who would best represent your country?

And Wings of Strength have even managed to resurrect the "Ms International" name! What's next? Continental qualifying events for the IFBB Ms. Wings International?!

I can dream!

Time to watch Oana guest posing again methinks...

To remind ourselves how significant it was, of course.

Physique Dreams: The Jessica Williams

I've got such a crush on her.

imagebam.com

Thus ended the few short paragraphs we were able to spare for Jessica Booker Williams as she entered your Hot and Hard 100 list at a surprisingly modest #63. At that time, the swoony Jessica had only just competed for the very first time at the NPC Southwestern Championships. She had won the Novice Physique title, the Masters Physique title, and the Overall Open Physique title. Not a bad weekend's work.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

And a couple of week's later she was victorious again at the Ronnie Coleman Classic.

imagebam.com

These two winning shows enabled Jessica to set her sights on a national level contest later in the year, and the contest she chose was the IFBB North Americans - the very same show where we began the week with Theresa Ivancik. Now could you imagine two more different physiques than Jessica's and Theresa's?! But there they were, competing in the same division at the same show. Perhaps that is the beauty and the curse of Women's Physique - but that's a question for another day.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

In her class (not the same as Theresa's), Jessica ended up 6th. Pretty sure I was the most conditioned competitor in my class, she wrote afterwards, but also definitely the smallest in terms of mass. She also took 4th in her Masters class - it's easy to forget she's in that age bracket when you look at her, and very hard to believe she's a mother and three children have come out of that incredible body, two of them at once!

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Regular readers will know there are few things in the female muscle world I love more than a women who loves it up there and makes you feel it, and I reckon you can tell from the photos that Jessica is one of them. Believe it or not, I get nervous, says Jessica. I look at a competitor with more mass and my initial feeling is "uh-oh". But no way do I allow myself to entertain that feeling for long. If I don't believe in me, how can a judging panel believe in me? How can a crowd believe in me?

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

That oomph is, at least partly then, born from a confidence she forces herself to exude. Convince yourself that you can do it, she tells her Instagram followers (36,000 and counting), and suddenly, your confidence becomes infectious.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

It bloody works, doesn't it?! And it seems the more she does it, the better it gets. I enjoyed every minute on the stage, she said of her North Americans' experience.

imagebam.com

But it would be wrong of me to give you the impression that Jessica is all about the contests, all about the placings. Nothing could be further from the truth, in fact. We've noted before that she seemed to arrive on the fan forums with a fully-formed physique, ready to compete. With her Exercise & Sports Science and Physical Education degrees, I think we can safely assume that she has been living the lifestyle for quite some time, and it's the life she does it for, not the silverware. This is my lifestyle of choice, she explains. I enjoy pushing myself. I enjoy being disciplined. I enjoy getting better every day. If it was all about trophies or prep, I would have lost a long time ago.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

After three babies, years in the workforce, and then becoming a stay-at-home mom, one day I began to wonder if this is how I would live and die, she says. I have ALWAYS had a hungry personality, always wanted to be pushed, always craved competitive challenges, and I needed to find that again in life somehow. Eight months ago, I wanted to make a change in life and pursue fitness to new levels.

imagebam.com

The day after her shows this year you would have found her in the gym, exactly where she was the day before and pretty much every other day. Disciplined. Focused. Getting better. Always pursuing those new levels. Always stunning. I'm sure there are women who hate her for being so damn perfect, but I'm also sure others can't help but be inspired by this (in her own words) "sassy, classy and a bit badassy" alpha female.

imagebam.com

It's a fairly common name, Jessica Williams. There is a bulkier and (forgive me) somewhat less attractive Jessica Williams, and there are (also somewhat less attractive) Jessica Williamses who compete in NPC Bikini and Figure as well. Our Jessica may have a common name, but she is one extraordinary (and extraordinarily attractive) woman. It's all in the attitude. Sometimes size isn't everything.

imagebam.com

I've got such a crush on her.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Sweet Physique dreams. Tomorrow is a new week on FMS.

Physique Dreams: Ceejay Byam

We had planned to focus on the 2016 Overall CBBF Women's Physique champion for today's post. This turned out to be Emilija Martic, but lovely though she is, Emilija's Instagram is just a little bit too focused on the "fit couple" thing. Nothing wrong with that, good luck to her (and her "gorilla") but a "swolemates" blog this ain't.

imagebam.com

The happy upshot of that decision is that it led us to Ceejay Byam. And I say that because, with all due respect to Ms Martic, Ceejay is even lovelier. She kind of reminds me of Melissa Lesage in some ways - looks, attitude, and, it turns out, both are trained nurses. And, like Melissa, at contest time Ceejay is a vascular freakshow.

imagebam.com

Ceejay won the "B" class at the Canadians, which didn't get her a pro card (by the way, did you know they have so many competitors in Canada that they split the Nationals over two events, one for Fitness, Figure and Physique, and the rest on another day!), and soon afterwards the Overall title at the Ben Weider Legacy Cup, which did.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
Overall winner, Ben Weider Legacy Cup

It's only over the last couple of years that Ceejay has packed on the muscle and competed in Physique. Her early competitive experiences were in Figure, which was her initial motivation to get in shape. In May 2011 I attended a show, she explains. I was interested and wanted to see what it was all about. While there I noticed a competitor walking around who looked phenomenal! I had been through various stages of weight through my life, and at that time I was very active in the gym. I am a person who always needs a goal in life, one thing led to another and boom!

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com
Ceejay @CBBF Nationals 2016

Apart from competing herself, Ceejay is a personal trainer who - as well as being able to help you with contest prep - specialises in weight loss. You can find a lot more of this beautiful woman on her Instagram, where, yes, you can also find her man, but he's not in every other post. Contest galleries with Ceejay will need a bit of sifting through at Muscle Insider, where they don't sort pictures, but her appearances in 2014 and again this year at the IFBB North Americans are on NPC News Online, where they do.

imagebam.com

Now she's achieved what she called "the ultimate goal" of a pro card, it'll be interesting to see what the goal-oriented Ceejay does next, but the chances are it will involve "the division I love". When I'm competing I love seeing my body transform from all the hard work that I have put into it, she says. Nothing feels better than when you stick to plan and it pays off. Absolutely. Unless you're a female muscle blogger whose planned post isn't all you wanted it to be. Then it's best not to stick to your plan.

imagebam.com

Enjoy!
