Oh Canada! Lise Thexton

I feel like they created the Women's Physique category just for me. I can train the way I like; I can pose big on stage and not have to hide my muscle, or any of my hard work. I’ve never felt so comfortable on stage and so at home as in Physique.

Remember Lise Thexton when she first appeared over ten years ago now? Once upon a time, this ultra-ripped Canadian Physique goddess was a somewhat softer pretty little "girl-next-door" type featured, I guess most memorably, on HerBiceps.

As far as I was concerned Lise pretty much disappeared after that, but then she popped up again a couple of years ago. And an IFBB Physique pro no less. The contest photo sites didn't seem sure if it was Lise or Lisa. She was blond now, and considerably less soft. She was placing in the top 10 but not the top 5. Great abs, I noted. Great smile.

Of course Lise (it's definitely Lise) hadn't just "disappeared" for ten years and then walked onto the stage at the 2014 St. Louis Pro born again ripped. In fact she'd been competing since at least 2008, beginning in Figure at natural bodybuilding shows in Canada before becoming a WBFF World Figure Champion in 2010. She then competed as a pro in that federation in 2011, before making the switch to Physique.

Starting as an amateur again, she won her first two shows. The second was the OPA Provincial Championship (on the same Toronto stage that she would return to in 2014 and again this year). At the Canadian Nationals in 2012 she came 4th in her class, but the following year she won it and turned pro for the second time in her career.

This year's Toronto show turned out to be something of a breakthrough for her then, her 2nd place finish by far her best as an IFBB pro. And who would say she didn't deserve it? "Streamlined" was how Gene X. Hwang described her physique in his contest report. I get excited every time I see striations on a competitor's face, and Lise had them in Toronto. Her abs (which, she has "always been proud of") looked as though bullets would bounce off them. She was a classy, sexy mixture of shredded muscle and feminine beauty, very much one of the best in a competitive field of 19 women.

By the time you read this Lise will have competed again, at the Vancouver Pro last weekend* (next weekend from my point of view - it's a timewarp again!). Her runner-up spot in Toronto got her on the Olympia qualification board. Another top 3 finish in Vancouver and she might have enough points to book her place in Las Vegas. Whether she makes it there or not her journey has taken her a million miles away from the doe-eyed brunette beauty of the HerBiceps days. And her journey is not over yet.
